Binance Hack 2026: What Nigerian Users Should Know—and Where to Trade Next

The Binance hack has left Nigerian crypto users with two immediate questions: can I withdraw my funds, and where can I trade if I want another option?
Binance has begun restoring withdrawals in phases after the 29 October security incident. Its 3 November update announced more assets reopening progressively, so availability still depends on your asset, network and account.
If you hold BTC or USDT on Binance and want to sell for naira, you can also explore CoinCola’s NGN markets. Start by checking the current offers and account requirements before deciding whether to transfer anything.
This guide covers the incident, what the recovery announcements mean, and how to assess CoinCola as an additional trading channel in Nigeria.
What happened in the Binance hack?
In its 30 October security update, Binance said its hot wallets were compromised on 29 October at around 20:05 UTC, with approximately $6.3 billion in token assets lost.
The exchange reported freezing roughly $3 billion on-chain with partners. Frozen funds and returned funds are different: blocking movement does not mean the assets have already been restored to the exchange.
Its initial investigation pointed to a compromised laptop, but the subsequent update described additional breach points. Binance said it had found no evidence of leaked wallet private keys at that stage. The full attack sequence remained under investigation in that update.
A careful reading matters here. “No evidence of a private-key leak” does not mean there was no theft. It describes one finding about an attack Binance was still investigating.
Are Binance withdrawals working again?
Some withdrawal routes have reopened, with more being restored progressively. Binance’s 1 November recovery announcement listed BTC and several USDT routes among its first phase. Its 3 November update announced further assets, while warning that listed routes would not all open simultaneously. Deposits remained open, according to these announcements.
For your own transfer, check the asset and network on the withdrawal screen. The Binance network-status page is another official reference, but account-specific checks and restrictions may still apply.
A dated article cannot guarantee that your withdrawal will go through at the moment you read it.
Will Binance cover the losses?
Binance said it would absorb the financial impact using its SAFU fund and company resources. Its 1 November update reported replacing approximately 95% of the affected amount and continuing to source the remaining tokens.
That is the company’s reported recovery position at that date. It should not be confused with a promise of instant access to every asset, or with recovering all the stolen crypto from the attacker.
For users, balance backing, access to withdrawals and recovery of stolen assets are related but separate questions. A statement about one should not be read as an answer to all three.
Looking for a Binance alternative in Nigeria? Start with what you need
You may want to keep holding your crypto, sell part of it for naira, or have another trading account available. Those goals call for different decisions. For users who want a BTC or USDT market with NGN offers, CoinCola is an option to evaluate.
CoinCola’s P2P marketplace lets users review BTC and USDT markets, including NGN. You trade with an advertiser, while CoinCola holds the seller’s crypto in escrow during the order. Check the live offer’s terms, limits and payment method before placing a trade.
For users interested in an NGN balance, the CoinCola Naira Balance guide explains the related account and trading features. Look for the Instant Sell label on eligible offers; it is not a guarantee that every offer or bank withdrawal will complete instantly.

Your first step can be comparing offers. You do not need to move your Binance balance just to see whether CoinCola fits your needs.

Before transferring from Binance to CoinCola
Once you have reviewed the market and decided to proceed, prepare the receiving account first:
- Complete the required account verification. Check the current requirements for deposits, trading and withdrawals.
- Open your CoinCola deposit screen. Confirm that your intended asset and network are supported and available, and obtain the current address and any required memo or tag.
- Check the matching Binance withdrawal route. Both ends must support the same asset and network. A reopened network is useful only if your destination supports it too.
- Review minimums and fees. Check how much will arrive after Binance’s withdrawal fee and whether it meets the receiving minimum.
- Consider a small test transfer. Allow for the minimums and fees, and confirm receipt before sending more.
This route depends on live service availability and your account status. CoinCola cannot release funds that are still restricted on Binance or bypass Binance’s withdrawal checks.
Selling your crypto for naira on CoinCola
After a supported deposit has been credited, review the current sell offers for your asset and NGN. Compare the quoted rate, permitted amount, payment method and advertiser’s displayed trading record. The best fit is an offer you can complete under its stated terms; the highest headline rate alone is not enough.
Follow the instructions for the selected order. If the order requires the buyer to pay your bank account directly, verify the actual credit before releasing crypto. A payment screenshot is not confirmation of receipt. For Naira Balance offers, follow the specific in-platform order flow and review the applicable bank-withdrawal conditions separately.
Keep order communication and evidence on the platform, and use its dispute process when needed. Our P2P security guide covers additional precautions before trading.
Does this mean another exchange is safer?
This incident alone cannot establish that. A custodial platform holds assets on your behalf; moving them to another custodial service changes the counterparty, but does not remove that reliance.
P2P escrow addresses a different issue: how a trade between buyer and seller is handled. It does not by itself establish protection against an exchange-wide security breach.
Self-custody changes the responsibility again. You manage the keys and backups, including the consequences of losing them or authorising a malicious transaction. Choose a setup you understand rather than moving into an unfamiliar wallet under pressure.
Watch for fake recovery help
Be cautious of unsolicited messages offering priority withdrawals, compensation forms or help “unlocking” a balance. Navigate to the exchange yourself and use official support. Do not share passwords, one-time codes or recovery phrases, and do not send crypto to someone promising to release your funds.
Explore another trading channel before you need it
If the Binance incident has prompted you to review your options, start with the part you can assess now: CoinCola’s available NGN offers, account requirements and payment flow.
You can evaluate another marketplace without committing your entire balance. If you decide to use CoinCola, confirm the deposit route and begin with an amount appropriate for a first transaction.
